Purchasing From Rivalt Kennels

Good health begins with our dogs. We thoroughly health screen all our dogs, and we do the same to our puppies. They come with a registration packet, dewormed for roundworm, whipworm, hookworm, and tapeworm, and their puppy contract.

Our Chihuahuas, Lhasa Apsos, and Doberman Pinschers come with CKC registration. Our French Bulldogs come with AKC registration. Our American Hunt Terriers come with registration from AHTCA, the American Hunt Terrier Club of America, the official parent club of the breed.

When our adults retire, many retire right here with us, but sometimes we look for special homes where they can be the only pet, or even just a few pets, so they can have the retirement they deserve. All are housebroken and trained. If you don't have time for a puppy, consider purchasing an adult!

About Us

A Dog Breeder With Heart

Puppies just make life better! At Rivalt Kennels, we have been building our reputation as a trusted breeder since we bred our first Lhasa Apsos back in 1994. Rivalt Kennels is located in Bradenton Florida and we have been here for five years. Before that we were located in Sarasota, where I grew up. We take our responsibilities very seriously and strive to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all our dogs. That’s why the happiest days for us are when one of our puppies is purchased by a loving and welcoming family. I began breeding Lhasa Apso when I was 12 years old, with my parents. Over the years I have fallen in love with other breeds as well, but the one thing that hasn't changed is my passion for providing the best puppies for people. I began Rivalt Kennels with the idea that quality puppies could be bred without restrictive contracts. As a family business we put the same love and care into our work. We support local business, and American made, and think dog breeding should be the same!

A Humble Beginning

How We Got Started

We started breeding Lhasa Apso back in 1994. Originally we did not plan to operate as a professional dog breeder, we just had two dogs that were so wonderful we thought others might want one too. After researching and learning about breeding we began producing some beautiful dogs. In 2016 I founded Rivalt Kennels, realizing I could use what I learned with other breeds as well. Since then, we’ve known so much love, joy and excitement! Contact us to find out more.

At Rivalt Kennels, we know all of our breeds and the proper standards of each. We aim to produce quality because we are a hobby kennel. That puts us in the sweet spot, having the breed knowledge of a Fancier, but the breeding skill of a commercial breeder. We operate on a small scale the same as a Fancier, but we breed for more than just ourselves, we breed for you! With that in mind, here are our breeds. The Lhasa ApsoSmall yet sturdy, this regal dog is actually a miniature guard dog. They originate in the mountains of Tibet and are one of only four Tibetan breeds. They are of the appearance of being ancient, wise, and regal, and are said to resemble the snow lion. Known as Apso Sent Kyi in their home country, the "bark lion sentinel dog" will do what he has been bred to do for centuries to this day. The lhasa apso is 13-20lbs 10-11 in at the withers, females are slightly smaller. They are terrier-like in build and manner, without being cobby, and the terrier-like quality of the temperament is described as being difficult to define but unmistakable when present. They are good with kids, being fun loving clowns, but don't tolerate teasing, and are chary of strangers. The coat is double and slightly wiry, but never coarse nor silky. It is long and doesn't shed and because of this requires brushing twice a week. They make good apartment dogs and are generally quiet and well mannered. The ChihuahuaThe Tichichi was a small breed of wild dog used by Incans as a food source, but somewhere along the way they became a favorite companion of humans. They were bred to be smaller and at this point made their way from Mexico to Europe. The heads became rounder and more puppy like and they were a favorite of royals. The Chihuahua is a saucy little dog with a saucy expression, and can be either long or smooth coat, single or double coat. They do shed a bit and color matters when it comes to how much. They are the smallest breed of dog in the world, but I believe they have the biggest personalities! They are 9 in at the withers and weight can be 2-10 lbs, with 2-4 lbs being considered ideal for the show ring. They come in all colors and markings. They can sometimes be yippy, but they have a small bark and are generally suitable for apartment living. They may not be the best for small children though, because they are tiny and fragile dogs. They can have floppy ears, but bat ears(wide and pointed) are required for the show ring. The Doberman Pinscher Created by Louis Dobermann who was a tax collector and the town dog pound master, for the purpose of protecting humans. They are the only breed created for this purpose. Tall and elegant, athletic dogs in appearance with long muzzles. They are the second fastest breed of dog. They are fiercely loyal and will give their lives to protect their family. They are stoic in nature but still have a sense of playfulness with their family, especially children. They are very smart and easily trained, making them a great choice as a family pet. They have short single coats that don't require much grooming, but they do shed. The hair doesn't tend to stick in fabric though, and color determines amount of shedding. They have a very loud bark and require a large amount of exercise, so may not be the best choice for apartment dwellers. They are 22-27 in at the withers and weigh 60-85 lbs. They are the only breed to engage in flank sucking and blanket sucking, which is adorable, and is like a little kid sucking their thumb, and they often do it to fall asleep. They do require tail docking and ear cropping, and this is done to protect the dog from injury. Dobermans have skinny whip like tails that are constantly wagging and they will hit it on walls and tables causing painful breaks, which is solved by docking, and the ear is restored to natural type by cropping which eliminates ear infection, but also prevents an attacker from grabbing and injuring his ear. You can say your Doberman is not going to be a guard dog, but you can't take his instincts to protect you away, if the day ever comes, he will do what he must to protect you and your family. The French Bulldog The Frenchie snorts, snuffles, wheezes, snores, screams, grunts, and farts, but rarely barks. Generally they are very quiet. They are adorable little bowling balls that are spunky and fun loving clowns that know how to have a good time. They are sturdy and playful, and gentle dogs, making them a good choice around kids. They do well in apartments too. They have a short double coat that sheds very little. Frenchies cannot swim, and they can overheat easily, so care must be taken not to let them run around too much in the heat, and keep them away from lakes and swimming pools. Being a smallish dog the Frenchie is a charming companion for anyone wanting a "big" dog without the large size. They are 11-13 in at the withers and weigh between 16-28lbs depending on gender. They have round flat faces and cobby bodies. Bat ears are the American standard, though European lines have rose ears. Originally bred in England to be ratters they quickly found their place with royals and upper class due to their amazing personalities and adorable faces. The American Hunt Terrier Bred in America for hunting deer, these little dogs are so new they aren't yet recognized outside their parent club. They are spunky and energetic with great scenting abilities, making them great hunting partners. They resemble Jack Russells in size and shape, but never come in particolor. Hunt Terriers must be solid in color with no more than 10% white. They are intelligent and easy to train. They are 10-15 in at the withers and weigh between 12-17 lbs. They have short double coats that do shed but require little grooming to keep under control. They can be vocal when excited and require a large amount of exercise for their size, but still can be excellent house companions. They have a playful nature making them great with kids, and they are quite sturdy, being terriers. They excellent ratters and have even been known to take on snakes, and win. They are fearless little dogs.
